Tree surgery, arboriculture and woodland management has always interested Jon Lindsay, Countrywise Tree Care's founder and owner. Jon has spent most of his life outdoors taking great pleasure in the natural history and outdoor activities available in the UK
As a school boy he volunteered in a local woodland working on conservation projects and native species regeneration and also enjoyed hill walking. At University Jon gained a BSc In Ecology developing a thorough understanding of animal and plant biology, animal and plant behaviour, forestry, conservation and environmental management. Jon began to build a passion for the outdoors taking up rock climbing and mountaineering.
He went on to join the Royal Marines and served for 16.5 years, becoming a military mountaineer before retiring as an officer. Jon served all across the globe including operational tours in the hotspots that were headline news at the time.
Jon has been exposed to many different environments and was lucky enough to come into contact with forestry and logging operations from Central America to Scandinavia to South East Asia. He built a knowledge of bushcraft from around the world and could see the resource value of various species of plants and trees. His desire to set up and deliver a cost effective environmentally friendly and safe tree care business employing local people was forged during this time.
On leaving the Royal Marines Jon embarked on a sustained period of re-training to become a tree surgeon, gathering as much tree work experience as possible. He holds the relevant City and Guilds NPTC and LANTRA qualifications and has attained a L3 Diploma in Arboriculture and Forestry. He also possesses the equipment required to carry out a full range of tree care services from pruning a privet hedge to dismantling a 100ft oak.
Jon sees trees as a great resource. He seeks to provide a tree surgery and arboriculture business employing hard working local people to deliver tree works, woodland management and rural skills in a safe manner and where applicable as environmentally friendly as possible.
